Pay on delivery
No deposit car hire in Malta
Book with a message, pay when the car arrives, and keep your credit card in your pocket, or leave it at home entirely. This has always been how we work.
Most car hire in Malta starts with a card machine: a credit card in the main driver's name, a pre-authorisation of several hundred euro, and a hold that can linger on your account long after you fly home. If you travel on a debit card, or simply do not fancy lending a rental desk your credit limit, the standard model locks you out.
We never adopted it. With Malta eCar Hire you book with a message, we deliver the car free to your hotel or the airport, and you pay on delivery, in cash or by card. No credit card needed, no pre-authorisation, no deposit hold. The price you saw on the page is the amount that changes hands, once, at handover.
What protects both sides is insurance rather than a frozen lump of your money: every hire includes full comprehensive cover with a €120 excess (€350 for drivers under 25 or over 71), plus unlimited km, a free extra driver and 24hr roadside assistance. Good to know
How no-deposit hire works
-
Pay on delivery
You pay when the car reaches you, not when you book. Cash or card, your choice, at the exact price quoted. Booking costs nothing and there is nothing to refund if plans change.
-
No credit card needed
Debit card, cash, or a card in someone else’s name: all fine. There is no "credit card in the main driver’s name" rule here, so travellers without one are not turned away at handover.
-
No frozen holiday money
The classic rental hold can lock away hundreds of euro for the length of your trip and days beyond it. We simply do not do that, so your travel budget stays yours.
-
Covered, not exposed
No deposit does not mean no protection. Every hire includes full comprehensive insurance with a €120 excess, or €350 if you are under 25 or over 71. That figure is the whole of your exposure, and you know it before you book.
