The practical guide
Renting a car in Malta: the practical guide
Everything first-time visitors ask before they book, answered plainly and with the numbers included. If something here surprises you, that is usually other companies' small print, not ours.
Before you book
The things worth knowing first
-
What you need to drive
A full, valid driving licence for every driver, plus your ID card or passport at handover. Extra drivers are free, they just need to be named on the agreement. If you are under 25 or over 71 you can still hire; only the insurance excess changes.
-
How you pay
On delivery, in cash or by card, at the price quoted. Nothing is paid online, no credit card is needed and there is no deposit pre-authorisation. Our no-deposit page explains why we work this way.
-
Delivery and collection
Free, anywhere in Malta: the airport, your hotel, an apartment or a villa. We agree a time that suits your flight or plans, hand over the keys, and collect the car the same way at the end.
-
Insurance without the upsell
Full comprehensive insurance is included in every price, with a €120 excess (€350 for under-25 and over-71 drivers). That number is your maximum exposure. There is no cover-upgrade speech at handover, because there is nothing to upgrade.
